On this day, the astronomical observatory of Prishtina reopened its doors after 35 years. The observatory, situated at the Palace of Youth and Sports, was established in 1977 but closed in 1987, following a decade of scientific and educational accomplishments.
The reopening of the observatory is the outcome of the multi-ethnic youth team of the Astronomy Club of Kosova (ACK), with support from the United Nations Mission in Kosova (UNMIK) and the Prishtina Municipality. Currently, the observatory is furnished with an optical and solar telescope, along with a meteorological station, and is poised to delve once more into the marvels of the universe.
According to the Astronomers’ Club of Kosova, the observatory welcomes the public for celestial observations and scientific inquiries. Its reopening, situated near the Palace of Youth Culture and Sports, signifies a significant milestone in disseminating astronomical knowledge and delving into scientific phenomena and the mysteries of the cosmos in Kosova.
Founded on March 20, 2014, by a group of enthusiastic young individuals fascinated by astronomy, the Astronomy Club of Kosova stands as the country’s inaugural club devoted to scientific pursuits and astronomy. With the observatory’s reopening, they aim to ignite people’s curiosity and cultivate a deeper comprehension of the universe in Kosova.
