On this day in 2015, the Kosova Accreditation Agency (KAA) achieved a significant milestone by joining The European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA).
The Kosova Accreditation Agency (KAA) made considerable efforts to secure its membership in the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA).
However, KAA faced a setback in 2018 when it was expelled from The European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR). This expulsion resulted from the dismissal of the agency’s board by then-Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj, raising concerns about KAA’s independence due to political interference.
Following this setback, KAA’s status within ENQA was downgraded from full member to “member under consideration” after April 19, 2018. Eventually, ENQA terminated KAA’s membership in 2019, citing reasons such as a lack of consensus in higher education in Kosova and inadequate personnel and financial resources to carry out KAA activities.
On September 20, 2022, KAA was granted the status of “affiliate” member in ENQA. This positive development marked a pivotal moment in KAA’s journey, allowing them to leverage the ENQA brand in their communications. The announcement was met with enthusiasm and optimism. KAA regarded this achievement as a significant step towards ensuring the quality of higher education and facilitating the recognition of certificates across European countries. The decision was also seen as a catalyst for promoting student and professor exchanges with European nations.
