On August 19, 2015, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) welcomed the Kosovo Athletic Federation as a fully-fledged member, an announcement that represented a milestone in the growth of athletics in the youngest country of Europe.

The initial phase of this journey commenced on April 15, 2015, when the IAAF provisionally admitted the Kosovo Athletic Federation. Despite being a provisional member, Kosova was bestowed “full rights and obligations”, a clear testament to the IAAF’s faith in the potential of Kosova’s athletic prowess.

This development marked an important moment in the sporting history of Kosova, enabling its athletes to participate in international athletics competitions under their own national flag.
