On this day in 2014, the Astronomy Club of Kosova (ACK) was founded, emerging from the passion of young astronomy enthusiasts dedicated to sharing the wonders of science with the people of Kosova and the region. Operating as a non-governmental organization (NGO), ACK strove to democratize astronomy, making the beauty of the universe accessible to diverse audiences. Guided by the motto “Boundaries vanish when we look skyward,” ACK’s initiative, “Under One Sky,” fostered unity among people from different communities and age groups. The club’s primary goal was to simplify the complexities of astronomy and create a shared space for stargazing and exploring the mysteries of the cosmos.
One of ACK’s significant projects involved the restoration of Prishtina’s Observatory, a pivotal hub for astronomical activities. During Manifesta 14, the club conducted its program from the Grand Hotel, utilizing the observatory. As the first and leading astronomy-focused NGO in Albanian areas, ACK was dedicated to spreading scientific knowledge and astronomical phenomena. ACK continued to expand its community, attracting new members eager to delve into the world of astronomy. The club focused on creating a supportive environment for its growing community, providing information, organizing events, and offering practical lessons in astronomy. By leveraging telescopes and available tools, ACK aimed to nurture a love for astronomy, contributing to a broader understanding of the cosmos in Kosova and the surrounding region.
