On this day in 2015, Donjeta Sadiku made history at the AIBA Women’s Junior/Youth World Boxing Championships in Taipei by becoming the first boxer from Kosova to win a medal at an AIBA Championship event. Sadiku competed in the Junior Lightweight class (60 kg) against Guadelupe Gutierrez in a match considered the Bout of the Day.
In an exciting finale, Gutierrez successfully closed the distance in the first round, continually attacking and putting pressure on Sadiku. In the end, Gutierrez claimed the gold medal, much to the delight of her coach and teammates. Despite the loss, Sadiku’s performance was an important milestone for Kosova and its athletes.
Born in Prishtina, Kosova, in 1999, Donjeta Sadiku began her boxing journey at the age of 12. Since then, she has continued her career, representing her country across various categories and competitions. Her success at the AIBA Championships highlights the growing prominence of Kosovar athletes on the international stage and serves as an inspiration for aspiring young boxers in the region.
