The inaugural “Festivali i Lahutës” celebrates traditional culture

On this day in 2019, a notable event, the “Festivali i Lahutës” (English: Lute Festival), made its premiere. This festival, organized by the Center for the Development and Promotion of Traditional Culture “Shkabat,” showcased the fascinating melodies of the lute, an old musical instrument commonly found in rural areas. The festival’s goal was to bring this traditional music from its rural roots to the bustling capital city, thereby expanding its reach and recognition.

The festival, which lasted five days, featured guests such as lute virtuosos from Tuzi, Montenegro, encouraging a cross-cultural interchange of musical artistry. Despite financial difficulties, “Shkabat” persisted, ensuring the festival’s survival. Fast forward to 2023, and the festival has just completed its fifth edition, demonstrating the organization’s commitment to sustaining this cherished tradition.

The “Festivali i Lahutës” functions as a cultural preservation and promotion beacon. It highlights the persistent resonance of lute melodies while overcoming geographical barriers, infusing the capital metropolis with the rural harmonies of this treasured musical heritage.
