11th Feminist Regional Festival “FEMART” in Kosova

On this day in 2023, the 11th edition of FEMART, themed “Burn Your Fear,” unfolded from May 15 to May 21, marking a significant chapter in the festival’s rich history.

Since its inception in 2013, the first Feminist Regional Festival in Kosova, known as “FEMART,” has consistently achieved its mission, providing a nurturing platform for approximately 100 women artists and activists each year. Anchored in themes inspired by social issues and a steadfast commitment to women’s rights, FEMART has become a dynamic space for artists to showcase their work. The festival encompasses a diverse range of art forms, including theatre, films, visual arts, concerts, lectures, and workshops, celebrating the creative expressions of women from Kosova and the broader region. Beyond celebration, FEMART seeks to enlighten visitors about the social challenges faced by women in the area.

The eagerly anticipated 11th edition of FEMART, themed “Burn Your Fear,” unfolded from May 15-21, 2023. This edition courageously tackled pressing topics such as human rights, transitional justice in the Balkans, women’s empowerment, violence against women, reproductive health, and regional success stories. Organized by a group of seasoned artists and civil society activists, the festival aimed to empower women to conquer their fears and speak out against injustice.

By seamlessly intertwining art and activism, FEMART aspires to create a liberating space where diverse voices unite under the common thread of feminism. Through a myriad of performances, discussions, exhibitions, and various art forms, the festival endeavors to ignite courage, dispel societal fears, and inspire positive change. Importantly, FEMART’s impact extends beyond the festival dates, fostering an ongoing dialogue on women’s issues and championing a collective movement towards liberation and self-love.
